This is the sapwood. It does have some heartwood in places. Supply is limited. It's the outside boards of the log.

 

 

 

This is sapwood mixed with heartwood. Use this side up for arts and decorative uses. It's very pretty and unusual looking for picture frames, furniture and trim.

 

This picture shows a piece of aged teak on top of fresh cut teak.

The color of teak darkens with exposure to oxygen and ultra-violet light

 

Teak cut off ends and pieces are used for crafts such as paintings, knife handles, pen blanks, and repairs, bungs, cleat braces, and much more.

 

This is fresh cut teak glued together to make a wide board.

Note that the seam is not noticeable.

 

This table top is made of 4 boards glued together. This teak is beginning to change color. You can find the seams where the grain pattern changes.

Wide teak boards are most often glued up, since these trees are harvested before they get really big.

 

 

Teak log cross cut view shows the outside sapwood and the inner part is heartwood. On small trees it is difficult to cut standard size lumber without getting both colors of the wood.
